Knott's Berry Farm
A plan, not a list of adjectives. What to sort before you go, what order to do things in, and the mistakes that cost first-timers two hours a day.
Knott's is a compact park with four distinct sections and no bad geography — the loop is under a mile. The planning problem is not distance but scheduling: the marquee coasters (GhostRider, HangTime, Xcelerator) sit in three different sections, and October nights are a different ticket entirely.
The park's crowd curve follows SoCal school calendars: summer and holiday weeks are busy, shoulder-season weekdays are genuinely calm, and the haunt nights in October are their own sold-out ecosystem.
In October the park runs family-by-day and haunt-by-night as separate experiences, and the haunt is a separate hard ticket. Arriving at 5pm on a haunt night expecting family rides is the classic Buena Park mistake.
The fried-chicken dinner house outside the gate predates everything. It takes reservations and deserves one — the boysenberry pie closes the argument.

Rope drop
GhostRider in Ghost Town — the park's best ride and its longest queue by ten.
First hour
The Calico Mine Ride while the town is empty, then walk to the Boardwalk.
Mid-morning
Xcelerator, then HangTime — the Boardwalk pair back-to-back.
Noon
Lunch — inside the park or at Mrs. Knott's if you planned ahead.
Early afternoon
Camp Snoopy with the family tier, or Silver Bullet and Jaguar in Fiesta Village.
Late afternoon
Silver Bullet if it was missed, then re-rides as queues drop.
Last hour
GhostRider at night — the woodie after dark is the park's signature close.
