The ladder, explained

Coaster parks run a taller ladder than the Disney parks, and the difference concentrates at the top: 51, 52 and 54-inch minimums barely exist at Disney properties and are standard equipment here. A family whose tallest child is 47 inches has a genuinely different park day than one with a 49-inch child, and knowing which side of 48 you stand on is the single most useful number in this guide.

The 54-inch tier is where the biggest forces live: the B&M hypercoasters (Nitro, Raging Bull, Mako), the big inverts (Batman at three parks, Silver Bullet's tier, the Great White), the flying coasters (Tatsu, Manta, Superman) and the most violent launches (Mr. Freeze, Electric Eel), plus Full Throttle and West Coast Racers at Magic Mountain. The 48-inch tier holds the hybrids and the hypers built with more forgiving restraint systems (El Toro, Twisted Colossus, Goliath at two parks, the New Texas Giant, HangTime, GhostRider, Xcelerator).

The counterintuitive result worth memorizing: intensity and height minimum are different instruments. Goliath at Magic Mountain drops 255 feet at a 48-inch bar; Batman's compact invert at the same park demands 54. Judge your rider's tolerance separately from the stick.

These are the minimums this site records, not a complete inventory or a guarantee of current availability. Check current posted attraction rules and the official app for daily conditions. An explicit retirement announcement takes precedence over a surviving legacy ride page; separately reported park confirmation is identified as such.

Read the Legoland row as deliberate: no heights are asserted at either Legoland park because their minimums are age-and-supervision based and move — the honest entry is no entry, with the park page linked.

The Magic Mountain row excludes retired X2 and permanently closed Superman: Escape from Krypton. Gold Rusher requires 48 inches in METROPOLIS; West Coast Racers requires 54 inches in The Underground. The borderline rider: what to do at 46–48 inches

Measure at home for planning, then check the current requirements for each attraction. Do not add shoe thickness or otherwise try to gain eligibility; a borderline home measurement is not permission to ride.

At 46–47 inches the best parks on this site are Knott's (Jaguar plus the family tier and the dark rides) and Six Flags Over Texas (Shock Wave at 42 plus the mine train tier), with Magic Mountain's Ninja the single best 42-inch coaster in the set. At a confirmed 48 the world changes: El Toro, Twisted Colossus, Goliath and HangTime are all real rides, not gateway rides.

A previous measurement is not a guarantee at a later attraction. Ask Guest Relations about current measurement and wristband procedures, and be prepared for staff to measure again. Attraction staff make the final eligibility determination.

• Under 42 inches — Legoland California or Florida; the height ladder barely exists there by design.
• 42–47 inches — Knott's Berry Farm or Six Flags Over Texas; the 42-inch tier is genuinely good at both.
• 48–53 inches — Magic Mountain or Great Adventure; the 48-inch tier at those parks carries the headliners.
• 54 inches and up — many listed minimums are met, but maxima, accompaniment, restraint fit and all other restrictions still apply.

How the parks measure, and what varies

Measurement and wristband procedures vary by park and can change. At Magic Mountain, ask Guest Relations for the current procedure; do not assume a wristband or an earlier measurement prevents later remeasurement. Attraction staff decide final eligibility. Check each attraction’s current posted rules before visiting. A verified minimum does not replace any verified maximum, companion requirement, restraint-fit check or other restriction.

Some family attractions distinguish between riding with a supervising companion and riding alone. Those are separate eligibility requirements; a minimum-height match alone does not resolve them.

Why some rides here say 'not stated'

Every park page on this site lists some attractions without a height figure, and the omission is a feature. Where this site's reference tables do not assert a number — because it has moved historically, because the source confidence is low, or because the ride's minimum is supervision-based rather than stick-measured — the page says so and sends the reader to the park's own listing.

This is the same editorial rule the heights themselves follow, applied to the gaps: a missing number costs a click, a wrong number costs a trip. The 'not stated' entries cluster where you would expect — the family tier at the Six Flags parks, most rides at both Legolands, and the attractions whose minimums have changed in recent years.

When a height is not stated, check current posted attraction rules and the official app, or ask Guest Relations. Do not treat a legacy ride page as proof of operation: a newer explicit retirement announcement takes precedence.
