What it is

Superman: Escape from Krypton is permanently closed. Hometown Station’s March 28, 2025 report says park president Jeff Harris confirmed the permanent closure to The Orange County Register. This is reported park confirmation; the article does not directly quote Harris, and the still-online official attraction page does not announce closure.

The attraction opened in 1997 as an early linear-motor launch coaster. Its 2011 rebuild changed the cars to a backwards-facing launch toward the tower.

This preserved page describes the former ride for historical context. It is excluded from current rideable itineraries and height-eligibility results.

What riding it was like

Historical experience: the shuttle cars launched toward the tower facing backwards, climbed the spike and returned to the station.

These mechanics describe the former attraction. There is no current queue or riding opportunity to plan around.

Is Superman: Escape from Krypton scary?

Historical ride description: the backwards launch and tower climb created speed and height exposure. The attraction is permanently closed.
