What it is

Magic Mountain's Batman is the West Coast sibling of the 1992 Great America original, a first-generation B&M invert packing a vertical loop, zero-g roll, corkscrews and tight helixes into one of the smallest big-coaster footprints anywhere. Thirty years on, it remains the pacing benchmark other compact loopers are measured against.

Because the layout is short and the trains never stop fighting, Batman is the purest forty-five seconds of intensity at the park. The suspended seats swing through the elements; the front row gets the cleanest inversion sensations, the back row gets whipped hardest.

Its listed minimum is 54 inches. Batman: The Ride is officially in DC UNIVERSE; The Riddler’s Revenge belongs to METROPOLIS, and height alone does not establish permission to ride.

What riding it is actually like

Your feet hang and the train never stops fighting. A vertical loop, a zero-g roll, corkscrews and hard helixes arrive with no filler between them — the layout is too short for any — which makes this the purest sustained forty-five seconds of intensity at the park.

Row choice is a real decision. The front row gets the cleanest inversion sensations and the view of the track snapping away underneath you; the back row gets whipped hardest through the same elements. The ride is short enough to do both when the queue allows.

Batman remains a compact inversion coaster in DC UNIVERSE. The Riddler’s Revenge is a separate stand-up coaster in METROPOLIS rather than another ride assigned to this land.

Is Batman: The Ride scary?

Compact invert, relentless pacing, five inversions in a small footprint. The forces are higher than the ride's size suggests — the vertical loop and zero-g roll come fast and the finale helix pulls hard. Riders who find big drops scary handle Batman; riders who hate quick direction changes do not.

Tips that actually help

  • Front row for the flight sensation; back row for force.
  • The queue is shaded and themed — one of the few at this park where the wait itself is tolerable at midday.
  • Plan Batman in DC UNIVERSE and Riddler’s Revenge in METROPOLIS as separate land stops.
